Vueling Flight Delayed or Cancelled? What to Save and Send

Vueling operates a dense short-haul network centered on Barcelona-El Prat (BCN) and other European bases. If your Vueling flight was delayed or cancelled, capture the facts first—then put a clear request in writing. Delay Draft helps you draft a Vueling delay letter that you send. We do not contact Vueling for you, and we are not a law firm.

This is general guidance only. Outcomes depend on your itinerary, delay length, cause, and Vueling’s review. Delay Draft does not promise compensation, refunds, or that any claim will be approved.

Barcelona network and when EU261 may apply

Many Vueling (VY) flights depart from Spain and other EU airports. EU Regulation 261/2004 (EU261) may apply on departures from EU, EEA, or Swiss airports—and, in some cases, on arrivals into the EU on an EU carrier from outside. Whether those rules cover your booking is not automatic.

Check your boarding pass, departure airport, operating carrier, and official EU guidance. Codeshares, connecting tickets on the same booking, and the reason for the disruption all matter. See our EU261 overview and the Spain flight delay guide for Spain-focused orientation. Delay Draft does not decide which rules cover your trip.

Short-haul delays, care, and what “may apply” means

On short-haul flights, care duties and other remedies under EU261 often depend on how long you wait and how late you arrive at your final destination. In plain language:

  • Airlines may owe care (meals/drinks in proportion to the wait; hotel and transport if you are stuck overnight) when thresholds and circumstances under EU261 may apply
  • You may be offered re-routing or asked to choose between continuing travel and seeking a refund instead of travelling, depending on delay/cancellation length and which rules may apply
  • Fixed amounts that sometimes apply after long arrival delays are not automatic and depend on cause, distance band, and the airline’s review

Ask staff or the Vueling app what they are offering, and keep a written record of what you accepted or declined. Extraordinary circumstances (such as certain weather or air traffic control events) may affect what the airline offers. No fixed payout is guaranteed. Use “may apply” language when you write.

App notices and boarding-pass screenshots

Low-cost short-haul disruptions move quickly. While you are still at BCN or another airport—or as soon as you get a notification—save:

  • Flight number, date, and route
  • Scheduled vs. new departure and arrival times
  • The reason shown in the Vueling app, email, SMS, or given by staff
  • Whether meals, vouchers, hotel, or rebooking were offered
  • Screenshots of delay boards, push notifications, and boarding-pass / QR screens
  • How late you arrived at your final destination

If you pay for food, a hotel, or ground transport yourself, keep receipts. Write down desk references if staff give verbal updates. App screenshots often matter more than memory when you write later.

How to send a written request after landing

After you land—or if the flight never went—send a dated letter or formal web form submission that includes:

  • Your name and booking reference
  • Flight number, date, and airports
  • Timeline of the delay or cancellation
  • Reason given to you
  • Care offered or expenses you incurred
  • What you are asking Vueling to review (care, refund/re-routing choice, or an EU261-style review as applicable)

Attach boarding passes, screenshots, and receipts. Keep a copy of what you submitted and any case or claim number Vueling returns.

If you need help organizing the wording, Delay Draft builds a clear letter from your flight details; you remain the sender.
